LrC Enhanced Photo (NEF->DNG) imported into unexpected location (Mac)

This is kind of hard to describe and hard to Google for.

I am seeing unexpected behavior after a re-install of LrC.  (The re-install was forced by some Mac hardware issues.)

Maybe I need to tweak an LrC preference to get back to the way it was?

I am on a Mac running macOS 14.2.1 with LrC 13.1.

This behavior is counter to what I have been seeing ever since "Enhance..." was added to LrC.

Anyway, within LrC , when I invoke "Enhance..."  from the right-click menu on an image (RAW/NEF), the image is enhanced but the generated DNG gets imported into a brand-new folder! A new LrC folder all it's own!

Previous to my LrC re-install, the DNG would happily be added to the folder containing the original NEF/RAW file, both within the LrC "Folders" tool/view and within the Mac Finder.

I would really like to get back to the original behavior.

Is there an LrC  preference I need to modify?

TIA,

Mark

Solved. Strange one. I think Conrad C might be on to something.

I had already double-checked the LrC permissions for Files and Folders and Full Disk Access.

What I did …

When I re-built my Mac, I accidentally re-created my own home directory using the wrong capitalization.

(Users/mark instead of the original /Users/Mark).

I DID NOT restore my Mac from a Time Machine backup. The Apple Store techs advised against doing this since it might simply restore the software or setting that was causing my issue.

As directed by Apple Store techs, I reinstalled apps “by hand”, one-by-one; but I re-used my original backed-up LrC catalog — which presumably “remembered” my Capitalized users folder (/Users/Mark).

When I re-named/re-Capitalized my home directory (carefully following the instructions at https://support.apple.com/en-us/102547) to the original /Users/Mark, the problem I reported here went away.

I never got around to resetting my preferences.

What is the name of the new folder that it created? What it names it might be a clue as to what happened.

The only thing I can think of is that there might be a macOS permissions issue with the original folder so that Lightroom Classic thinks it can’t write to it, only read from it. That would cause it to put a new file somewhere else. Verify that Lightroom Classic has the permissions it needs: Check Apple menu > System Settings > Privacy & Security > Files and Folders and/or Full Disk Access.

This is very bizarre and unexpected behavior. I would try resetting the preference file: https://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-do-i-reset-lightrooms-preferences/
