LRC extremely slow suddenly

My lightroom classic is suddenly EXCRUCIATINGLY slow. Everything is running slowly, but especially when trying to copy and paste settings (even if there are no AI adjustments being copied). I have been waiting 15 minutes on my current image and it's not even a quarter of the way done processing. 

 

It was working fine last week. Then one day I logged in and this started happening. I have not uploaded any images or anything in the meantime, so I know it's not a system problem ( I have a fairly good setup). 

This is causing me huge delays in my workflow and I've had to contact clients to extend their wait time for their galleries.

    Hi @Tayler5EFC,

    Thanks for sharing the System Info. Since Lightroom was working normally until recently and the slowdown appeared suddenly, I’d like to narrow down where the delay is occurring before having you make broader changes to your setup.

    I noticed that Lightroom is using approximately 3.5 GB of the 4 GB VRAM available on your Radeon RX 6500 XT at the time the System Info was captured. You’re also running a 3840 × 2160 display. That doesn’t by itself establish that the GPU is causing the problem, but it makes a GPU comparison worthwhile.

    Could you please try the following:

    1. Test the same operation with GPU acceleration disabled

    Go to Edit > Preferences > Performance > Use Graphics Processor, change it from Auto to Off, restart Lightroom Classic, and repeat the copy/paste operation that’s currently taking an unusually long time.

    Please let us know whether it becomes significantly faster, remains about the same, or gets slower. You can return the setting to Auto afterward.

    2. Test a very simple copy/paste

    On one of the affected images, copy only a couple of basic settings, for example, Exposure and White Balance. Make sure Masking, Remove/Healing, Denoise, Lens Blur, and other AI-related settings are not selected.

    Try pasting those settings to approximately 5–10 photos and let us know how long it takes.

    3. Compare with a temporary new catalog

    Create a temporary new catalog, import 5–10 of the same CR3 files, and repeat that same Exposure/White Balance copy-and-paste test.

    If it’s fast in the new catalog but extremely slow in your existing catalog, that gives us a very different direction to investigate. If both are slow, we’ll know the issue is broader than the catalog.

    A few additional details would also be useful:

    • Where are the original CR3 files stored: internal SSD, external drive, NAS/network storage, or a cloud-synced location?

    • Approximately how many photos are you normally pasting settings to when you encounter the severe slowdown?

    • Did you install the current AMD graphics driver (Adrenalin 26.8.1), a Windows update, or make any other system change around the time this started?

    These controlled comparisons should give us much more useful information about what actually changed.

      My files are stored on an external drive

      Usually I'm only pasting to a handful of images at a time 4-6 images

      I did a Windows update recently but it was after this issue started

      You can’t know that this isn’t a system problem, it could be a lot of different things including hardware malfunction … let’s not rule anything out just yet.
