LrC Generative Remove Failed

This happened in Lightroom Classic, says "Generative Remove Failed. We've encountered an issue and can't complete your request at this time. Please try again later."

Correct answer johnrellis

That error usually indicates a firewall issue on your computer or on network routers between your computer and Adobe's servers. Sometimes firewalls and anti-malware / anti-virus utilities incorrectly block some network requests from LR. Try these troubleshooting steps:

- Temporarily disable all the firewall / anti-malware on your computer. If that solves the problem, then add a specific exclusion for LR to the firewall's rules.

- Connect to another network, preferably one serviced by a different ISP. E.g. a Wifi connection of a neighbor, a coffee shop, work, or your phone's hotspot. Sometimes the routers in these networks block LR's requests, especially in authoritarian countries like China.

I am experiencing this issue too. I have Norton Antivirus and have allowed access to lightroom. My issue however, is that if I use the generative removal on small objects it works, but not larger objects. My internet connection is fine and as far as I know my firewall is not blocking the connection and I've tried restarting lightroom but still it gives me the "generative remove failed" error on larger objects. Is there a way to fix this?

@Rebecca217624854pcb: "My internet connection is fine and as far as I know my firewall is not blocking the connection and I've tried restarting lightroom but still it gives me the "generative remove failed" error on larger objects."

That error message arises when *something** is blocking network requests/responses from LR. Based on all the reports here and my own experience developing LR plugins that connect to the network, when this happens, firewalls on the computer and network routers don't block all requests from LR, just some.

Some steps to narrow down the problem:

- Try disabling Norton entirely and ensure Windows Defender is turned entirely off and then test LR.  (If you don't do any other activity on your computer while testing LR, it will be safe.)

- Connect your computer to another network: Your phone's hotspot or another Wifi from a neighbor, work, or a coffee shop.

I've been experiencing the same thing, off and on.   The only thing I do to correct it is close LrC and reopen it.  So far, that has worked.  Best of luck!!

You might want to search in tis community on that error message, doing so will yield other members discussions on the same issue, at least one with a solution, but not necessarily an absolute solution.

When I try to use the remove tool it would says "We've encountered an issue and can't complete your request at this time. Please try again later." This is a new Mac I got about a month ago so have not installed anything besides some adobe apps. It was working fine up until today.

Hi, thanks for reaching out, and we're sorry about the trouble! Would you mind sharing the version of Lightroom Classic you're using along with your computer's macOS version? Are you getting the same error on multiple images?

You can check out the suggestions here: https://adobe.ly/3RwALpj

Let us know if it makes a difference!

@Maryann_Bravo7435 you'd be better off reporting the issue on the Lightroom Classic forum
