Question

LrC immediately exits splash screen

Summary

After starting LrC I get the splash screen and immediate exit from LR, sometimes I get the spinning ball for a few seconds and then exit.

Details

I used LrC earlier in the day to copy a number of photos from a Catalog folder to a Collection folder. I closed LrC and selected the Backup option and no errors were indicated. Later when starting LrC I get the behavior above.

System Environment

I'm using an iMac desktop running MacOS Ventura 13.5.1 and LrC 12.5. My photos are on a network drive and my Catalog is on my local disk and Dropbox with off-line access enabled (i.e both local and in the cloud). I have had this configuration for a number of years without problems.

Additionally, I have a MacPro laptop running LrC and pointed at the same photos and Catalog as the iMac. The laptop is behaving correctly, i.e. I can start-up LrC.

Things I have tried (to no avail)

  • Rebooted the iMac
  • Signed out of Creative Cloud and then back in
  • Uninstalled LrC and reinstalled it from CC
  • Checked that lr.lock file is not present when starting from the iMac
  • Set the permissions on the suggested Library files to read-write for everyone, they were already read-write for myself
  • Started LrC with (shift)+(option), I get the screen to reset Preferences, the splash screen and then exit

I've run out of ideas, any suggestions would be welcomed.

Have you used Finder to locate the catalog and then double clicked on it to open it, just in case the normal method is trying to open the wrong catalog?

Yes I have tried that, should have mentioned it.
