Question

LRC import issue

I took a bunch of photos using my cell phone while on a trip last week.  I copied the files to a folder on my computer and then tried to import them into LRC.  The folder has 96 photos in it, I selected all photos to be imported.  My import settings show the following:

Do not import suspected duplicates - Off

Import into sub folders and organize by date

When I look at the destination it shows the new sub folder with 3  sub folders which are the dates.  So far so good but here is my issue, the number of photos that it shows will be in each subfolder only add up to 25 not the 96 that I selected.  Why?  I checked everything that I can think of but have been unable to resolve the issue.

I am attaching 2 screen shots showing what I mean.

I unfortunately don't have a solution for you, but am adding to the chorus. Since updating to Sequoia and LR 14.2, I have had major issues with import. Same as you - not all files being recognized, glacially SLOW with preview, unresponsive at times. It's become a huge source of frustrtation.

So, you are not alone. I have found that by re-importing, it will continue to pick up missed files, and unchecking the duplicate files box, you may find it picks up more (apparently having deemed them already imported?). Hope Adobe is on this one because it's a pretty core function of the program that's botched real real bad.

Hi @mattdayka, Let's see if we can troubleshoot this together. First, ensure that all 96 photos are indeed in the folder on your computer. Sometimes, files might not copy over correctly, so double-check the folder to confirm that all photos are there. Check if there are any hidden files or duplicates in the folder. Even though your import settings have "Do not import suspected duplicates" turned off, it's worth verifying that there aren't any hidden files that LrC might be ignoring.

Another thing to consider is the file format of your photos. Make sure that all the photos are in a format that LrC supports. If some photos are in an unsupported format, LrC might skip them during the import process.

You mentioned that the destination shows three subfolders organized by date, but the total number of photos only adds up to 25. This discrepancy could be due to a few reasons:

1. Some photos might have incorrect date metadata, causing them to be excluded from the date-based subfolders.

2. There might be an issue with the import settings or a bug in LrC that's causing it to skip certain photos.

Maybe try importing the photos into LrC without organizing them into subfolders by date. If all 96 photos are imported correctly, then the issue might be with the date metadata or the subfolder organization settings. If the problem persists, you can also try importing the photos in smaller batches to see if that helps. Sometimes, importing a large number of files at once can cause issues.

If none of these work, can you send us a few more details?

  • Issue - a short description of the problem.
  • Steps to reproduce - a numbered list of the exact steps needed to replicate the issue..
  • Expected result - what should happen after executing the last step.
  • Actual result -  what actually occurred after the previous step
  • Adobe Photoshop version
  • Operating System - specify Windows or macOS, along with the version

Hope this helps! ^CH

I have used LR since it debuted. It's not a setting. It's not metadata. It's LR. My workflow has not changed, but after upgrading to Sequoia and updating to the latest LR at the same time, the issues arose. Ingestion has bugs in it. Not just me - others are having the issue as well. I'm also having a lot of random bugs in Develop. Mostly while using masks, but they pop up throughout. A little cursing and a restart of LR usually fixes it until it happens again.

I have seen LR through a lot of stages of growth over what - almost 20 years? This update is bad. Not the worse I've seen, but buggy enough to make me wish I hadn't.  Whether it's Apple or Adobe to blame, I don't know. But I hope they can hold hands and figure it out.

MacBook M1 Pro running 15.3.2.

PS 26.4 (26.5 just installed now)
