LRc loses location of files on update

Updating LRc causes my photos to be lost and I have to re-point LRc to the file location. How can I prevent this from happening?

Updating or upgrading? What was your previous LrC version? What is your new LrC version?

Updating Lightroom Classic should not do this, and neither should a catalog upgrade if the update requires that. Are your photos on an external drive? If so, perhaps Windows assigned a different drive letter to it.

What update do you mean? Please be specific.

Updating LrC does not cause files to be lost, normally it is something the user has done that causes files to be lost. So please take us through your process after this update, step-by-step, leaving nothing out.
