Question

LRC loses pictures when moving big amount of pictures (moves them only on hard drive)

I found a Lightroom bug that needs to be fixed! It really annoys me and costs me a lot of time to fix everytime it happes. I use one single catalogue for all of my work. I have several hard drives where pictures of this catalogue are located (m2 ssds for fast work and slower ssds for archiving or less used images)

I have encountered this problem now several times and i allways am afraid that LRC will loose the pictures for real. It happens when moving a lot of images (more than 10)  within the catalog to another folder (same or different harddrive)
Happened again today when I wanted to add my "white flag" pictures all to one collection. I accidentally didn't create a collection but a folder and then moved these images into the folder instead of in the collection area. So far so good and actually nothing bad if you can use CTRL+Z 😉 If necessary, I would have moved the pictures back to their original folders BUT instead of the almost 2500 marked pictures being moved correctly to the folder, Lightroom has them left digital negatives in the original folders and moved the images around on the hard drive without recording them there in the catalogue.

a short explanation of what happens:

  1. move 2500 images from about 20 different folders  into folder X (happens also if they're not marked)
  2. pictures are moved to folder X on the hard drive
  3. in Lightroom Classic, the images are still displayed in the 20 folders, but with the message "Image not found"
  4. I have to either move the images back to their proper folders in Windows Explorer OR go to all 20 folders > Find File and find it in Folder X (why can't Lightroom itself look for the file in the folder? It's annoying having to type in the whole filename).
  5. the images are displayed correctly in folder X and I can move them back to one of the 20 folders within LRC

So far this occured mostly when i created subfolders in an existing folder in the catalogue to which i wanted to sort pictures into.

Correction: while trying to restore everything i discovered some missing files. checked all folders with a raw viewer in explorer but they're gone. So this bug has cost me now some precious files.
