LrC macOS11 Impromptu Slideshow May Not Render From Develop Until You Display a Slideshow in Library

LRC 11.3.1 macOS 11.6.6 (20G624) Big Sur

For the last couple of weeks I've not been able to trigger the Impromptu Slide Show from the menu or the keyboard shortcut. I would typically launch the slide show from Develop since I tend to review selections after I've made adjustments. I've been arrow through one by one as a work around.

However, just tried starting the slide show from Library (instead of Develop) and it worked - finally.

Flipping back to Develop and launching a slide show now works.

On the first slide show from Library, it showed the Slide Show on the second screen. But then on the subsequent slide show started showing on the main screen - without any intervention to specify where you wanted the slide show to appear. Then had one session where it didn't respond to the ESC key to stop until I clicked on the opposite screen.

So there might be a subtle bug in the 11.3.1 release where slide show can be in an unexpected state.

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. If you can clarify a few things for me, we can get to the bottom of this.

Are you using multiple monitors? Does this behavior appear after a series of steps or in any screen mode like fullscreen?

Do you use any other resource-intensive application that might be behaving oddly?

To begin with, please go to Lightroom > Preferences > Performance > Use Graphics Processor > Set it to Off if it is on Custom or Auto. If this shows you any differences, please check this article to troubleshoot further: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/troubleshoot-gpu.html

You can  reset Lightroom Classic's preferences by following the steps in this article (prefer using method 2): (https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/help/setting-preferences-lightroom.html)

You are also working on macOS Big Sur (v11). You can consider updating the macOS to Monterey.

Let us know if this helps,

Thanks!

Yes, two monitors. It's an iMac so it's the built in and an external monitor.

Graphics Processor was set to Custom.

Normally, during photo processing in Lightroom I'm only running a small number of apps. Typically, LRC and Photoshop might be running.

Constrained on this computer to run Big Sur since I have audio apps have not been qualified yet for Monterey.

So far, having figured out the work around to launch the impromptu slide show from Library, the function has returned to normal. So something must have reset once it had been run once.

I was just testing on a Monterey machine, noting that Impromptu Slide Show does not use the currently selected items. It uses all the images currently filtered (or not). Normally, I would trigger Impromptu Slide Show immediately after setting the rating filter - so I have a specific subset filtered. But then I just highlighted 10 items in a folder that contains 1000 images, and it started to prepare the render for all 1000 images - not what I expected (but not typical of my normal workflow). Confirming: Impromptu Slide Show ignores selection?

Actually, the problem has not gone away. My work around of switching between Develop and Library isn't working today. In fact, I can't call up an Impromptu Slideshow at all.
