Question

LrC not completely closing

Win10 computer:  Current version of LrC:

I have 3 catalogs.  I recently deleted the LrC software and reinstalled it because of this problem below but it still exists.  I also created a new catalog for the Family Catalog and brought my images into it.

I have not experienced this in the other 2 catalogs.

Every time I close LrC, it continues to keep the .lock, -shm and -wal files open so the next time I want to open Lrc I need to delete these files.   The software seems to be working in the background a lot longer than it used to.  Sometimes I close it and check win explore and the 3 files are gone.  The next day I look before I open it and they are back, not always but sometimes.

Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this?  Thank you in advance,  Tom

Hi @axrtu! Could you share which version you're using and how you usually close Lightroom Classic? Are your catalogs saved in the same or different folders? How long does the app keep running in the background after you close it? Do you get an error message? Normally, the lock file doesn't get deleted if the app crashes or if it's force quit.
Thanks!
Alek

Hello Aleke, thank you for responding. Hi @axrtu <>! Could you share which version you're using and how you usually close Lightroom Classic? I am using v14.2 Are your catalogs saved in the same or different folders? My catalogs are stored on a- 500mb EZDIY-FAB NVME PCIe 4.0 Adapter, M.2 NVME SSD to PCI Express Adapter with Heat Sink, Only Support PCIe x16 Slot,Support M.2 SSD 2230 2242 2260 2280 How long does the app keep running in the background after you close it? I have not timed it but it varies somewhere in the range of 2 to 5 minutes. Do you get an error message? I get error messages only when I try to open LrC without deleting the 3 loc files. Then LrC will not open. Normally, the lock file doesn't get deleted if the app crashes or if it's force quit. Thanks! Alek Thank you, Tom

I use Win 10 up to date with LrC up to date and one of my 3 catalogs does not remove the .lock, - shm or - wal files when closing LrC.  I have deleted LrC from my computer and reinstalled it.  I have opened a new catalog and re synced it but to no avail.

Each time I want to open LrC I need to go to Win Explore and delete the 3 files.

Also when in this catalog, LrC is doing something in the background all of the time.

If anyone has an answer, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you,  Tom

If this only happens with one particular catalog, then uninstalling and reinstalling the Lightroom application will obviously not solve it. This must be something with this catalog, not with Lightroom in general. It sounds like the catalog may have some corruption that causes Lightroom to crash just before it would properly quit, preventing Lightroom from performing the very last tasks (deleting those temporary files). Do you have a catalog backup from before this started to happen?
