Question

LRC not responding

Hello everyone

Mac OS and latest LRC

I messed up some file names and had to delete all the photo folders and restore them from a backup. Now I have constant issues starting LRC. It gets stuck at Reading Preferences and will not load. I uninstalled it (except preferences) and reinstalled it, and still have an issue. It looks like it did not install a new default catalog in my pictures folder, so I don’t know what the installation situation is. I did get in tonight once before un- and reinstalling, but when I exited, I could not get in again. I keep my Lightroom settings with the catalog.

I really want to keep all the edits to all my photos, but do not care about other preferences as I assume I can reset them as needed. Any idea what I need to do?

Uber frustrated…

    UPDATE:

As mentioned, I went to CC and uninstalled LRC and reinstalled it. I was surprised that it did not create a new cat in the Pictures folder, though CC said it had been installed.

I went to my Applications folder, found the LRC uninstall link, uninstalled it, and reinstalled via CC. This time it did create a new cat. Clicking on that cat, it opened LR every time.

Now I am importing my previous cat into the new cat. Of course, running out of disk space, so I moved the new cat to another drive, and continued importing. So far, so good!

I suspect an additional HD may be in my near future!

Hey, @johnp17654037. Welcome to the Lightroom Community. I'll help you figure this out.

What version of MacOS are you working on? Did Lightroom close normally the last time it worked, or is this a fresh installation on this machine? Try these steps to get Lightroom to launch:

    • Reset Lightroom by holding the OPT/ALT + SHIFT when you launch Lightroom and select 'Yes'.

    • macOS: Ensure Lightroom Classic has the required permissions: https://adobe.ly/3DyUwsz

    Thanks!

What happens if you delete your preferences file? (If you don’t want to really truly delete it, just move it to somewhere else).
