LrC opens with an error message and then closes

LrC opens with an error message saying it cannot find or open the catalog. Click OK or "more info" and it promptly crashes. I have signed out and back in to no avail. I updated the NVIDIA RTX 4060 driver for studio use, also to no avail. I feel that if I could keep it open I could direct it to the catalog. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Correct answer AxelMatt

Please check if there's a .lock file next to the LR catalog in the appropriate folder.

If  there's such a .lock file it must be deleted manually.

More informations about this, you'll find here:

The Lightroom catalog cannot be opened because another application already has it opened - lrcat.lock (adobe.com)

This issue could be caused by a corrupt catalog. It has happened to me. Try a backup catalog.

Hey @Kurt Mueller,

Welcome to the Adobe Lightroom Classic Community. I'll do my best to help you resolve this issue. It looks like you've already gone through some of the basic troubleshooting steps—thank you for doing that. While a driver update often helps, this may be a different issue altogether.

Could you please share your system information? You can find it by going to Help > System Info, then copying and pasting it into a text file and attaching it to your response. This will help us investigate further.

Also, I wasn’t able to locate a crash report using the email address associated with your community account. If you submitted a crash report using a different email, could you please send it to me via DM?

Looking forward to helping you get this sorted out!
