Question

LRC v will not import photos

LRC hangs when importing photos, and I cant find any threads to help

I've updated LRC to v13.1 build 202312111226-41a49e8 running on a MacMini 8.1 with Mac OS Sonoma v14.3.1

I last imported, sucessfully, to LRC in v12 and before Sonoma

I said yes to updating the library to v13 and this has been done

I have also set LRC to full disk access as I kept on getting messages that it couldnt access everything it needed to

All my previous uploads are present

When I choose import and select a new folder to thumbnails of all the photos  appear. I can double click an individual thumbnail and it enlarges

All files are checked but when I click on import LRC hangs either with a message saying "importing files" even if left to run overnight, or with a message to say ...finding duplicates (It doesnt help when I deselect this from the import actions)

When I close LRC I get a message to say that a task of importing files from their original location is in progress, do I really want to close

If I do close I then get a message to say that there are no files in the location.

The files are jpg, heic, and raw2. It makes no difference if I select just one of any of these types to import. It still hangs

Thank you for your help

The photos are all on the internal HD

So the photos are already in the hard drive in the location you want them in, probably by using Finder.

Ok

So are you selecting the Add method for Import, as opposed to Copy?

Thanks. It gets weirder.

The new photos wont import into LRC, but will into LR (and can be edited)

I can import older prexisiting not previously imported photos into LRC.

The new photos that wont import into LRC also import fine and can be edited in Affinity.

For the new photos in LRC

I select Import from the library screen

I'm asked to select a source . I choose Mac HD, my photos directory, and all my subdirectories appear

I choose the subdirectory for the new photos I'm having problems with (I have tried putting some in a different subdirectory, including an existing one that I have no problems with). At the top of  LRC window it is set to ADD (add phtotos to catalogue without moving them). Thumbnails appear in the import window, all checked. Individual ones will expand when clicked. When I select import from the bottom right everything hangs. When I quit, I get the message that there were no photos to import.

This is what I've always done for the other subdirectories in the past.

And I can still import photos from a pre existing sub directory of old photos Is've not previusly imported. Works fine.

The new photos  are a mixture of HEIC downloaded from iCloud taken by my iphone, JPG's from my camera SD card that I've modifed the medtadata on to add an hour as my camera was set to the wrong time, and RW2 files on my camera, again with metadata for time changed. These were all taken in the last 3 months on a long trip.

The problem is the same if I have a single new HIEC, jpg or RW2 in a sub directory that I try to import

SOLVED

LRC wont tolerate a backslash in the file name used in the date. Everything else will

Now all successfully imported

I renamed all files to date and time taken.. I normally use date only and dont use the backslash when I do. Used it this occassion to distinguish the number for date from that for the time.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP.

Regards

Andrew

Where are the photos located? Camera card? External HD? Internal HD? Somewhere else?

hi. thanks for responding. The photos are all on the internal HD

LRC has acccess to all the other folders in the same enclosing folder

The photos are in a new folder in the same enclosing folder as all the others

LRC is set in OS system to full disk access
