macOS 13.0 LrC 12.0.1 copying during "import" but no image ever imports

I've had the same workflow for years and this just popped up in the last few days. I plug in my sd card and copy the images, via lrc's import dialogue, to an external drive. This has always worked. Now, the images do copy to the external drive but they never import into lrc. I then have to initiate the import again (from NEW location on external drive), this time choosing "add" and voila...images appear and previews get built. What setting have I changed to cause this?
