Question

MacOS Sonoma (beta 2) appears to have problems with Lightroom Classic

I am getting very frequent crashes using Lightroom Classic 12.4 in the new MacOS Sonoma beta2.

Simply switching to a new collection will give me a full crash (app disappears) almost everytime.

I haven't noticed any problems with Lightroom (cloud) yet.

MacOS Sonoma beta 2 on a MacBook Pro 16" M1 Max.

I can provide some insight. Yes, after updated to the second build of the Sonoma Dev beta, LrC crashes instantly, as do all 12.x versions, EXCEPT for 12.0.1. It ran a few times then crashed once again. It's necessary to state this behavior is expected with beta software, however, LrC is the only applicaiton that exhibits this behavior. Make of that what you will.

I'm currently purging Library cache and will test again then liekly re-image the machine to continue testing. LrC is a great way to keep busy.

Edit 1:

Fresh install opens fine with new catalog. Trying to open previous/main catalog crashes immediately. Will test loading main catalog without preview files in directory then try importing from main catalog to new catalog.

Edit 2:

Uninstalled Photoshop Beta and Photoshop from machine, LrC (12.4) now opens usual catalog wihout issue or hesitation. Now, I have a full spec M2 Max MBP and I will always disable GPU accel because navigation actually suffers with it enabled. I don't have the heart to close the application because all signs points to it not opening again once closed and as much as I love tinkering and finding bugs, this (self-administered) headache is losing its appeal pretty quickly.

Edit: Crashed about 45 minutes after my last edit. I'm doing a backup of some files, not a ton since a lot of my stuff lives externally and in cloud storage. I'll be downgrading to Ventura once my smart previews file is backed up. As haphazard as betas can and are innately going to be, LrC somehow tends to have issues year after year. Something about the underbelly of this application and some degree of non optimized cross-architecture code is something that might need to be addressed in the near future.

I hope I'm wrong and everything I'm saying is null for the sake of the community.

I uninstalled, reinstalled, created a new catalog, multiple combinations of those things, all to no avail.  Thanks for posting your experience, as well.

Same - was completely stable under Beta 1, now crashes continually under Beta 2.

Understood this is not a supported configuration - just wanted Adobe to know about it and looking for workaround.

Bugs reports are not accepted against Beta Versions of an OS. Beta versions are not supported.

Moving to discussions.

While we do work with OS manufacturers behind the scenes, in advance of their final releases, we do not support Adobe's current shipping products on unreleased OS's. As release for a new OS draws closer (for Apple, typically the Fall) compatibility improves.
