Map Module shows grey screen only — no map, no pins — despite valid GPS metadata (Windows, dual 4K monitors)
Summary:
The Map module fails to render any map content. On launch, the world map appears very briefly, then the entire module goes grey and stays grey indefinitely. No persistent error is shown, though a fugitive message reading "Unable to connect to Adobe servers. The Map module is not working." occasionally flashes on screen for a fraction of a second before disappearing. This matches other open reports of the same bug (e.g. the "(Europe) Map Module not showing a Map" thread, open since LR 14.2 in early 2025 and still unresolved as of 15.5).
Environment:
- Lightroom Classic version: 15.5 [202607291506-b8869fa7]
- OS: Windows 11 Home, version 11.0.26200
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER (driver 32.0.16.1088)
- GPU acceleration: Off (User Preference: Off, GPUDeviceEnabled: false)
- Displays: two monitors, both 3840×2160, system running at 200% (192 DPI) scaling
- Language: English
Steps to reproduce:
- Open Lightroom Classic with a catalog containing photos that have GPS coordinates embedded in their metadata (confirmed present via Metadata panel, Location preset).
- Switch to the Map module.
- World map flashes briefly, then the module goes solid grey with no pins, no map tiles, and no persistent error message.
Expected result: Map tiles load and photo pins appear at their correct GPS coordinates.
Actual result: Grey screen only. Behavior is consistent and reproducible every time the Map module is opened.
Troubleshooting already attempted (all unsuccessful):
- Confirmed GPS data is present and correct in file metadata and in the Lightroom catalog (Read Metadata from File performed; Location preset in Metadata panel shows valid coordinates)
- Full Lightroom preference reset (Ctrl+Alt+Shift on launch)
- Disabled GPU acceleration entirely in Performance preferences
- Tested with Lightroom windowed vs. maximized, and on primary vs. secondary monitor
- Overrode high-DPI scaling behavior for Lightroom.exe via Windows Compatibility settings, tested both "System (Enhanced)" and "Application" modes
- Issue has persisted across multiple Lightroom Classic updates over roughly the past year, always on the latest available version
Additional notes:
This appears to be the same unresolved issue tracked in the "(Europe) Map Module not showing a Map" bug thread (open since Feb 2025, still active). Given how long this has been open and how many users are affected across versions 14.2–15.5, it would be helpful to get an official status update from the engineering team.
