Map Module shows grey screen only — no map, no pins — despite valid GPS metadata (Windows, triple 2K monitors)

In the past year (not so much in recent months), there were many reports of the map not appearing from users in non-US countries, mostly (but not exclusively) in Europe:

No workarounds were identified that helped most people, and Adobe never acknowledged the problem (because they couldn’t reproduce it).  Some things to try that have helped at least one or two people:

- Exiting LR from the Library module (which you’ve tried).

- Resetting LR’s preferences:

LR sometimes soils its preferences file, and resetting it can fix all sorts of wonky behavior. That article explains how to restore the old preferences if resetting doesn't help.

- Connecting to a different ISP (e.g. through your phone’s hotspot).

- Using a VPN to connect through a US city.

- After the grey map appears, wait for at least 90 seconds (you may see the grey background change slightly). Then move  the zoom slider at the bottom of the map module (don't try to use the + button):-
