Question

Mask overlay not visible when new mask is created

Issue: When I create a new mask the overlay is not visible. It's supposed to show until a setting is altered, but it does not. All mask types. If I roll over the mask in the list it appears, but disappears if when the mouse is over the image. If I check "show overlay" it does show, but then the overlay is permanent which I don't want. Especially difficult when using the brush mask

  • Lightroom Classic Version Number: 12.2.1
  • OS Version Number: MacOS 13.3.1

Steps to reproduce:

  1. ... choose a new mask
  2. ...draw the mask on the image
  3. ...

Expected result: red (or whatever color is set) overlay shows up until a peramiter is changed.
Actual result: no overlay visible.

The menu item Tools > Mask Overlay > Automatically Toggle Overlay is probably unchecked.  If you select it, the mask overlay should revert to its normal operation.

Try resetting LR's preferences:

LR sometimes soils its preferences file, and resetting it can fix all sorts of wonky behavior. That article explains how to restore the old preferences if resetting doesn't help.
