Question

Masks -manually

Is it possible to use a mask manually when the Auto feature doesn't pick up a subject?

I have a flock of flying birds that LR Auto feature does not recognise the subject.

without going back to the old routine of having to use a brush to cover the whole intricate rea of each bird, is there a way for me to identify to LR what the subject is or if not, can I select one bird and mask myself and know it will replicate to all the other birds?

I am using 12.1 Classic

thankyou

You could also brush the entire area where the birds are (sky and birds included in the brushing) and intersect that with a luminance range mask, that should select all the birds only (assuming the birds are darker than the sky). That might be easier than selecting each bird.

Or brush the entire area (sky and birds) and then subtract a color range mask (subtract the blue)

unfortunately they are not against the sky so no blue to invert with.

You can manually select an object, but that wont 'replicate to all other birds'. You would have to manually select each of them.

It should work if you select the Objects mask. Each bird has to have its own mask.

Thanks

once you have applied a mask to one bird, can you copy it to another bird? If so what is the process.

I have seen on other videos that applying automask to the whole area will enable all similar objects to have the same addjustment feature applied. I have not been able to do that, so is there a trick to it or didd it just happen by chance as all the trees were so much different colout  to the background? Thing with the birds is that they are flying against a bank so really not that much colour difference.

As stated, "each bird has to have its own mask". I don't think copying an object mask is possible in LrC right now. I gave a better solution (in my opinion) elsewhere in this thread.
