Question

metadata lost after moving in explorer,

Hello,

I have been stupid/inexperienced enough to move folders in windows explorer. Now the images are gone in LrC, I thus cannot reconnect them to the folder. When I re-import them, the changes are still there but the flags, stars and keywords are gone. Also, the keywords and the collections have generally disappeared.

Any idea what to do?

Thanks!

Valentin

If you moved folders using Explorer, the images shouldn't be "gone in LrC". What should happen is the individual images would be flagged as missing (exclamation mark top right corner of the Grid-view thumbnail), and the folders in the Folders Panel would be dimmed with a question mark overlay. If you see something different, then you did more than just move the folders outside LrC, in which case you need to explain exactly what you did do.

If the images and folders are in fact still showing in the catalog, with the "missing" indicators, you can reconnect them very easily following these instructions: https://www.lightroomqueen.com/lightroom-photos-missing-fix/

Re-importing is NOT the solution.

Hello Jim, Thanks for this explanation, it's exactly what I am thinking too. The problem is that I am not aware of having done anything else except moving the folders and changing the catalogue default catalogue and than changing it back.

... no, that can't be the reason, I did that AFTER everything had disappeared in the hope of fixing it
