Missing Images

Hello All

I have combed the internet for quite a while and am unable to find an answer to my problem. I wondered if anyone here could assist please?

I was moving some images from a folder on my hard drive to an external hard drive. This was all done within lightroom to hopefully minimise the possibility of lost images.

During the process it stalled and crashed. The result is that circa 950 images have moved with no issue but 4nr are missing. I have searched the target and source folders to look for the "physical file" via Windows Explorer but am unable to locate them at all. I have also tried the Recycle bin but once more unable to find them.

Would anyone know if there is some sort of "emergency dump folder" where they may have been saved to?

Regards

Steve

Sorry to say you have fallen to the LR bug that can happen when moving images from one drive to another drive.

When doing that it is best to do it with the File Manager for the OS and then Reconnect them in LR to their new location.

There is no dump folder

You say you lost 4nr. What is nr? If you meant to type Now, 4 now are missing, sorry but they are GONE. Replace them from your backup of all your images. No backup then it is time to Start making one.

Hi

Thanks for your swift reply.

Firstly, I used nr to indicate number (of).

I do need to look into backing up my portable hard drives, as I am not too sure how to go about it at the moment.

I was under the impression that I was doing it the right way moving the images in lightroom.

Ah well, you live and learn I guess.

Thanks again

All the best

Steve

To back up files the simplest method is to COPY them from the drive they normally are stored on to another drive.

There are programs that can do that automatically but I choose to do it manually every time I import images.

So at the present time you have no backup of the missing images? If that is the case then you have lost them completely.
