more than one catalog working on the same files that need to be converted

Hi all,

I have the necessity of converting plenty of files (more than 10K) that work with more than one LRC catalog. Now if I convert them to DNG in the "main" catalog, LRC will be able to find the "missing" files automatically in the other catalogs too? I don't want to re-locate all the files one by one...

Thanks!

Converting the photos will create a major problem because of the multiple catalogs they are in, and I don't think there is an easy solution for it. Yes, you can use "Find Missing Photos" in the other catalog(s), but you cannot simply reconnect them in bulk, because they have been converted to a different file type. I don't think you can reconnect an image called 'ABC.RAW' to 'ABC.DNG' at all, but even if you can reconnect images with different file types, then you can only do that one by one.

I also wonder why they 'need' to be converted in the first place. I have never seen any situation where converting from raw to DNG is anything other than a personal preference.

You can only have one catalog open at a time. Therefore, best you complete the tasks in the first catalog before relaunching LrC into the second catalog.

To find the missing photos in the second catalog, it would be quicker to use 'Find All Missing Photos', which can be found under the Library menu. LrC will then find all of the missing photos and create a collection within the Catalog panel as shown in attached screesnhot.

Thanks Johan,

that's what I was expected to hear. SO the reconnecting process is something I have to do manually for my secondari catalogs. I'm converting everything in my digital archive to DNG because it's literally huge and the DNG conversion gives me two advantages:

  • The inner DNG validation which can be useful to keep track of damages in files.
  • I can save up to 20/30% in total storage space, which can be valuable to me.

Why does anything need to be converted? Converted from what to what? Please explain this whole problem in a lot more detail.
