Question

My edits are no longer there.

I imported my photos from another catalog quite some time ago with LrC. What could be the reason that all my edits are no longer there. I work with separate XMP files.

Did you import the photos, or did you use 'Import from Another Catalog'? Importing photos from another catalog does not import the edits, because edits are stored in the catalog, not in the images. The 'Import from Another Catalog' menu does import edits as well. You do not 'work with separate XMP files'. You can (automatically or manually) save edits to XMP files, but Lightroom Classic does not 'work' with these files. Lightroom Classic always only works with its catalog. The XMP files are extras.

Dank voor jouw antwoord Johan. The "Automatically save changes to XMP" check box has been on for me for a long time. You say that changes are not saved in the XMP but in Lightroom itself. One line further you say that the changes will be included in this function. And that is also what I know, have learned. I see that the photos of several imports have not been updated. So something special must have happened later. I'm going to test it again anyway

I said changes are not saved in the images (in case of raw files, that is). If you use "Automatically save changes to XMP", then the changes are saved in XMP sidecar files as well, but that is extra. That's why I said you do not 'work with XMP fies'. You always work with the edits in the catalog, regardless of whether you write to XMP or not. For non-raw files the changes are saved as metadata in the headers of the images if "Automatically save changes to XMP" is checked.

If you import images that have XMP sidecar files, then Lightroom should apply the edits that are saved in those files on import. However, if you apply a develop preset on import, then this preset could override the XMP sidecar files.
