My recurring 'inconsistent state' ~ what causes it?

Yeah sure, I'm getting old.  But for months now I'm getting that message that my catalogue has been left in the inconsistent state, requiring a delay when LR opens.
It is moderately large {114,375 images} I thought maybe the videos were troublesome, so I removed ALL of them months ago...
I'm current on CC, doing Win7/64 and do the backup/optimize every time.  It takes quite a while but I just walk away and read a book.

I've tried closing with Edit/Select None.  Tried leaving an image selected, several selected, etc. but no joy...

What CAUSES this?  Something in my workflow?

    Have you tried deleting your prefs file? A corrupt prefs file can cause all sorts of funny things to happen. Sometimes it can be the prefs file that is left in an inconsistent state.

    No, never thought of that.
    I will, especially since I have not done any extensive work in them.  I'll review the process, probably just rename the file and then report here after several sessions of LR since it is not reliably every time I quit/restart.
