Question

Navigation Bar lockable?

Is there a way to lock the navigation bar, or any bar for that matter so it doesn't collapse unintentionally? I believe with heavy editing, we all interchange between zoom levels using the navigation bar. There are times I'm working quickly and I'll go to press the little arrow key, but I'll accidentally click in between the denoted sizes (depicted in red below) and it collapses the navigation bar which prevents me from seeing the preview shot and where I'm zoomed in. This drives me absolutley bat guano crazy. It slows me down because I have to scroll over and hit the drop-down arrow on the left to re-open the nav bar to see the preview again. Additionally, the word "Navigator" cannot be clicked to expand the menu so I'm forced to use that little arrow on the left. There should be a button somewhere in those fields that allow us to lock each tab so it doesn't collapse while accidentally clicking in the wrong spot. I've searched various resources and can't find anything. Hopefully I'm missing something because I have to admit... there are a few things that seem like no-brainers to implement in certain programs and this is one of them. Depending on how much brush editing, spot removel or localized color grading I have to do on some of my images, this issue creeps into my world easily a dozen times per heavily edited image.

I can click the Navigator bar/word and it will open/close the panel.  Lr9.1 macos 10.14.6.   Must be a Windows bug.

A Windows bug! Yup has to be!

My Navigator panel will open/close only when I mouse click on the spinner triangle OR exactly between the Zoom buttons (Fit Fill....). Anywhere else on the panel header- nada.

Personally I mostly Zoom with the [Space] bar, which toggles between the last two set Zoom levels (eg. Fit and 1:1 )

Regards. My System: Windows-11, Lightroom-Classic 15.3, Photoshop 27.5, ACR 18.3, Lightroom 9.3, Lr-iOS 10.4.0, Bridge 16.0.3 .

I agree that this behavior is annoying.

The fact that you cannot click the word Navigator to open and close the panel is a bug. It works with the other panels.

The closing of the panel when you click between item is bad design at best, I would call it a bug.

However, if you accidentally close the panel by clicking, you can open it again by clicking in the same spot.

There is also a keyboard shortcut for it, Ctrl + Shiift + 0. (not very convenient)

And you can use the space bar or Z key to toggle between current and previous magnifications.

There is a discussion about this on the feedback forum, I suggest that you add your constructive criticism there.

You're right. It has to be a bug. And I'm only a month into using Lightroom and this kind of b.s. programming will have me looking for alternative software for my photo editing in no time if I keep finding these problems. Especially because this kind of bug will likely go unfixed for a ridiculously long time. Not cool. I often change zoom aspects frequently. Truly there should be a toggle hot key that when pressed, it will just cycle through zoom ratios like radio stations. For example, holding CTRL and pressing TAB could allow the image to be zoomed in further and further, so on and so forth until it cycles back to 'fit screen'......... The CTRL + TAB combo currently does nothing in the program so it should be easily implementable.

Space bar toggling between zooms does nothing, but I knew about using Z to toggle.
Ctrl + Shift + 0 does nothing on my program.

Wondering if you have "Solo Mode" ticked or mot?

I see thats not quite your issue perhaps but I thought its worth asking . . .

I do not have solo mode selected, but doing so changes nothing.
