navigation problems

I am having a hard time navigating thru light room. trying to do some editing and somehow i got my photos switched to something I have never seen. there is a photo popped up and it says active and there is a blank spot and it says reference. Dont know how i got here or how to get out of it. I just want the one photo to be up so I can edit it, how do i get back there?
