Question

Navigtion in the Dev module is slow for large catalogs

My catalog has 340,000 images. When I navigate more than one image forward (or backward) in the Develop module, Lightroom is unresponsive for 5 seconds until the image appear. This is new with Lightroom classic v13. I was able to navigate rapidly in the Develop module with Lightroom v12.

This is extremely annoying when applying settings to multiple images, or doing quick edits to multiple images or images that are not immediate neighbors.

Other symptoms:

- Navigation in the Library module v13 is seamless.

- Navigation in the Develop module v13 with a catalog of 800 images is seamless.

- I tried resetting the Lightroom settings, no improvement

- I tried disabling GPU, no improvement

- Navigating to the immediately next and previous image works faster if you remain on an image for a while.

- Navigating from Library to Develop module for an image that has been up for 5 seconds is seamless

Diagnosis:

It seems that Lightroom v13 is caching data for the image selected in the Library module, as well as the next and previous image in the Develop module. This time is affected by the size of the catalog. If the cache has not had the time to load, the Develop module remains non-functional.

Work around:

One [annoying] work around I have found is to export my folder into a separate catalog, edit my images, there and then re-import that catalog.

OS: Windows 11, Ryzen 9, 64GB RAM

Lightroom: 13.0.1

GPU: NVidia RTX2060 Super

What do you have the Camera RAW CACHE set for?

Sorry for the delay in responding (I thought I'd get an email someone replied).
I had 20GB cache (with 120GB disk free). I tried changing the value to 100GB and restarting LR. The problem persists.
