Question

Need help migrating catalog, pictures and presets to new computer.

I'm in need of expert help please. I bought a new desktop and I wanted to migrate my catalog, pics, and presets onto it from the old machine. I followed the steps of an online tutorial and copied them all onto an external hard drive to move them over. The problem starts when I set up my new computer - after installing LR and PS through my Adobe account it appears as if One Drive imported LR settings I have on a laptop. The issue is: the catalog on the old machine is in a folder named Charles, but when I open LR on the new desktop it's named crst1. As such I can't figure out how to get LR on the new computer to recognize/find the photos from the old machine.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Find this catalog file in your operating system (Windows Explorer or Mac Finder). Double-click on it to open it. If the photos are missing (exclamation point icons) or the folders are missing (question mark icon on the folders), here are the instructions to fix this: https://www.computer-darkroom.com/lr2_find_folder/find-folder.htm

Welcome to the Lightroom Community. I'll move this to the Lightroom Classic community for other experts to chime in and help you with this.

If you've already opened the correct catalog on your new machine, you can relink all the originals to Lightroom Classic.

If you have kept the folder path/hierarchy precisely the same on the new machine for the original images, Lightroom Classic allows you to update the folder locations for all your image & folders, and you won't have to go one at a time.

    • In Lightroom Classic, go to Library Module.
    • In the Folders panel on the left, right-click on your folders and click on 'Show parent Folder' to look up the root folder.
    • We are looking for the root folder to help us re-link in one go.

    • Use the 'Update folder location' to show Lightroom Classic the updated path to your images new machine.

Let me know if this helps. Thanks!
