NEF files not converted to DNG - there was an unexpected end of file error

Hi folks,

I've just downloaded and installed the latest version of Lightroom - version 8.3 Camera Raw 11.3.

When importing new images from an SD card and converting to DNG, I'm getting the error message "There was an error working with the photo" in Lightroom. I have tried trying to convert the original NEF files (backup copy taken on Import) using the Convert to DNG app and receive the error message "There was an unexpected end of file error" for each image.

Has anyone else experienced this error?

Grateful for any pointers.

Sounds like a file corruption problem. The cause could be a bad camera card, bad hardware used to transfer the photo to the computer, bad hard disk, or bad memory. I would try different hardware to transfer the file to the computer. If that doesn't help, you can try to troubleshoot the process further by running diagnostics on the hard disk and memory, and by trying a different camera card.

    Hello dj_paige,

    Thanks for the quick response.

I had previously used to SD card for a SatNav update so I guess this frazzled the card even though I re-formatted in camera.

    Many thanks

Well, I discussed many possible causes, and you do not provide any logic that definitively points to a bad card. So, I am not convinced that this SatNav update (whatever that is) would cause the card to go bad.
