Question

New computer doesn’t have files in catalog after a certain date

I am setting up a new computer, moving to a Windows 11 i9 system with Thunderbolt port.  I keep my catalogs, files, previews, etc. on an external USB-3.1 hard disk.  I have always been able to switch between different laptops by accessing the catalog on the external HDD, including another Windows 11 computer and 2 Windows 10 machines.  I clicked on the catalog in File Explorer to launch LRC with the right catalog.  For some reason, I can't see anything imported since April. When I switch back to the older computer, they're back.

I checked the file permissions and they seem appropriate in both.  I can see the folders and files in File Explorer in the new machine, and open the embedded sidecars in the Photo app.

Other than these new files, Lightroom seems to be working fine, at least for the test image I processed.

I'm a pretty advanced user of Windows, Lightroom and Photoshop and right now, I can't see what the problem is.

I have inadvertently fixed this!  I renamed a couple of folders and did some other file operations.  Perhaps this updated the directory of the disk?  Anyway, now the folders and their files are showing and editable.

Just to be clear, I did this on the older computer that could see the folders and files in LRC.  Of course, just as I did this, I got online with the Adobe Help Chat person.  Thanks for the help anyway.

These two cannot be looking at the same catalog file. I realize you have attested elsewhere in this thread that it is the same catalog and you have checked that; I would recommend you double-check and triple-check.

Also, how do you determine if it is the same catalog file? The name of the catalog is shown at the top left of the Lightroom Classic window. In the screen capture below, the catalog name is simply Lightroom v12. Under Catalog Settings, both the name and folder location is shown, have you checked both of those on each computer?

I started the catalog by going to the folder and choosing it (double click) so that Windows launches LRC with the selected folder. It's the same on both.

Classic symptoms of not being in the latest catalog. Copy the catalog from the machine that is showing all the images correctly and put it on an internal drive for the new installation. See if that works.

As I said, the catalog is in an external hard disk which I'm using on both computers. I had already checked I was using the same one.
