New computer, new version of LR, file management

I've got an old Windows 7 computer with LR5 on it. I moved/deleted some photographs in Windows Explorer because I didn't realise you should do all your file management within LR. So now my LR catalog is out of step with my actual folder structure.

Now I've got a new Windows 10 computer and I've just installed the latest versions of LR and PS on it and I don't really know how to go about transferring my photographs from the old machine to the new one. Some of my pics have edits, but because the old catalog is messed up I don't think I want to just copy it onto the new machine.

I'm pretty new to all of this, so explanations as to a 5-year-old would be appreciated!

You should clear up your catalog on the old machine.

Install the latest versions of LR and PS on your new computer. Then you can move the catalog and the pictures to the new computer. The pictures should be stored under the same drive and in the same structure as on your old computer.

In the next step start LR and open the existig catalog. LR generates a copy of your catalog (NameOfYourCatalog-2.lrcat) and bring it up to the new version.

Thank you - that's very helpful.

Except ... the Lightroom Queen link is aimed at restoring pics that are marked as missing by LR, but I want to actually remove these pics from the catalog, as I've already deleted the files from my hard disk. Is there a quick way of selecting all the pics marked with the exclamation mark and removing them from the catalog in one go?
