New Computer with photos on a hard drive Transferring to Lightroom Classic from Light Room 5.6

Happy 2020 all. I am finally ready to take the plunge and join the Lightroom Classic Community. Currently my lightroom 5.6 sits on a computer that is not with me at the moment. However I do have all my photos on an external hard drive that is with me. I do not have the original disc or the licensing number with me. Do I have to go through the process of transfering my lightroom catalogue first ? Or can I just buy the monthly plan and uplaod my photos from the harddrive?

Currently I have around 90,000 photos and my Lightroom files are well organized. When I look on my hard drive the filing does not appear the same. Of course I would not try to edit other than through lightroom.  I would not like to loose my organised filing.

The good news is no. When you subscribe to the Photography Plan you will see a few choices. You'll want to pay attention to this as you go through  the process. Check out the plan options here: https://www.adobe.com/creativecloud/photography/compare-plans.html

You will get an email confirming your purchase with a link to Get Started. Follow the link, choose and download Lightroom Classic as it will be what you are used to with your previous version. When you next open your Lr catalog it will ask you if you want to update. Once it's updated your catalog should be intact although you may need to update the location of the  folder(s) where your photos are stored.
