New Library is missing folders

I am a total newbie to Lightroom.  I got it with my Photoshop subscription and have what I hope is a fixable problem.  My version is 12.5, I am using Windows 11 on a new PC.  I have abut 18,000 photos in my Pictures folder in dozens of subfolders and subfolders within the subfolders.  I set up my library by telling :ightroom to include Pictures and all subfolders. It got about 80% but failed to include several key subfolders. It shows the first two subfolders, skips the next 9 subfolders, and then pisks up the last 4 subfolders.  It happens to miss the Astro Photos folder which is all I really want to work on. 🙂  I tried clicking on the + icon next to folders and selected "add folder" which takes me to the file explorer view.  There I selected the Astro Photos folder and clicked on the "select Folder" button.  Then the file explorer disappeared and nothing happened in Lightroom.  I have attached photos of the library folders and the select folder view.

 

How can I get to my missing photos?

    Thanks for the input.  It sounds to me like Adobe is having a touch of trouble dealing with MS's latest directions.  Windows 11 pushes people more toward cloud based storage.  I ended up getting an Office 365 subscription so I can have 1T of storage and let One Drive do it's thing with backup of my important files.  I'm 75 and no longer want to be bothered with maintaing RAID arrays, disk images and the like.  I also, don't want to use LRc to manage my photos.  I just like using the editing capabilities.

     

    My new interest in deep space astrophotography is burying me in image files.  I have a 1T external SSD dedicated to that mass of data.  I do keep an Astro working folder on my C drive for my current project.  That was the one I couldn't get connected to LRc.  I kept checking and rechecking always save on disk but it just wouldn't show up.  Eventually it did, I suspect it was after I clicked on an Import button but that wasn't clear to me.  In any event, I can edit the ones I want for now and I think I can struggle thru cycling image files in and out of my astro working folder without confusiing things too much.

    NOTE: I may (probably am) wrong on the following. The OneDirve path might just be indicative that the files are on a local hard drive AND copied to OneDrive, that the files actually in use are in fact on a local hard drive, not on the cloud.

     

     

    Library Path: C:\Users\donhe\OneDrive\Pictures\Lighthroom Classic\Lighthroom Classic.lrcat

     

     

    So here is the issue. Whenever I see that OneDrive included in a path, I assume that the path is a link to the cloud. That is to say that catalog is located on OneDrive, on the cloud. And LrC catalog eventually fail on the cloud.

     

    Now, not a fan of OneDrive, and I find that MS is more than a bit pushy on OneDrive getting involved. Hence I avoid it. In fact I avoid it show much that I maintain a local user account on my PC instead of using a MS Account (I have both). My Local account does not use OneDrive in any way. Mind you, that is not the only way to make sure OneDrive is not interfering. I believe you can configure OneDrive so that it does not automatically place your photos, or you catalog on OneDrive, be that working files or backups.

     

    Can another number provide some definitive guidance??

     

    Now some pointers on where to keep LrC related files

     

    • The Catalog should be on your fastest hard drive (that has enough space)
    • The Library Previews must be on the same hard drive, same folder as the catalog
    • The Camera RAW CACHE can take advantage of a faster hard drive. I does not need to be on the same hard drive as your catalog
    • For Windows OS, the Camera RAW CACHE and the Windows Paging file can compete with read/wrights. It can be advantages to not place the Camera RAW CACHE on the same hard drive as the Windows Paging File (not always possible)
    • The original photos can be on any hard drive, internal or external, their is no performance advantage in LrC for them by placing them on your fastest hard drive. If hard drive space is an issue, they could be on a different hard drive than the catalog
    • Do not worry about where the Adobe program files are installed. It is a pain in the rer to alter that, and not worth the trouble. You could force LrC to be installed on a drive other thatn the boot drive, but it is not worth the effort.
    • Per Adobe (dang I am missing a reference for this) the photos can be on the cloud. But you will find lots of postings where that failed. Several members will yell Noooooooooo. Place them on a local hard drive.

     

    hmm, I should provide references about OneDrive. Inputs anyone?

    Looks like you have those photos on OneDrive. I huge mistake.

     

     

    While Adobe apparently supports the images on the Cloud, in reality that breaks. These photos really need to be on a physical hard drive in or connected to your computer.

     

    By the way, in your screen capture of the LrC Import, the difference in how those green check marks appear indicates a OneDrive issue. And the Astro Photos is involved with this.

    I have an additional suspicion. Your catalog location. This can easily be clarified. Can you post some system information? This from LrC. In LrC, click on Help, then System Info, Copy the System Info displayed to your clipboard. Then in a reply, paste that in. If you can, trim the pasted info down to just the info from first line down to just past plugin info.

    Thank you.  I thought I had that folder on my C drive.  I suspect the others that amissingre not.  Astro Photos are killing my disk space.  I have a 1T external drive chock full of them too.  I elected to keep some files I don't need frequently in the cloud.  I hope I can just change that setting for the Astro Photos directory and bring them into LRc.  It is just my working directory for current imaging objects so not huge.

     

    Here is my system info.  I didn't intentionally tell LRc where to store my catalog.  I was surprised to see it show up in my pictures folder  since that doesn't seem sensible to me.  And it looks like I fat fingered the setup on my new PC - my user name is supposed to be donheff not donhe.   I'm 75 this year.  That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
