New Lightroom Classic features masks for e.g. background disabled

Hi,

I am trying to use the new feature of automatic mask creation for e.g. motive, background, sky. However, this feature is only available for some and not available for many of my pictures. When I open the masks tool, the buttons for motive, sky and background are simply disabled. It is unclear why. Can anyone explain this?
