None of my Catalogs work anymore

When I upgraded to the new version of LR it said my Catalog needed to be "Upgraded" but after agreeing to that, it shows my Catalog as completely empty like a brand new one. Every back up Catalog I try makes me upgrade it and the same thing happens. I have lost 8 years of Edits and Collections. Someone please help me out!

    Lightroom lost the connection to the existing upgraded catalog and so it opened a brand new one. You should open the upgraded catalog manually (File - Open Catalog) to show Lightroom where it is.

      Could you be more specific as to the steps that would I or others would need to follow after the File-Open Catalog step.

      You need to find the catalog you upgraded and open it via that menu. Catalogs have a .lrcat extension, so you can first search for that if you don't know what the name of your catalog was.
