Not recognizing previously downloaded photos

First, everything seemed fine.  Then when importing, would not recognized previously downloaded photos.  And then, the worse, all of my photos in my catalogue are greyed out.  That, even after rebooting my computer.  Don't know what to do, but not particularly happy.  Seems so related to the update to 14.0.1  Was working flawlessly before.
