Question

Not Syncing Keywords between photos

I use Lightroom Classic as a photo organizer which includes keywording all of them. I have a large Catalog (20,000+) images, and i have noticed recently when trying to sync keywords between images, the top left indicates that the action is takling place (with a very fast progress bar) however the keywords do not sync. While sometimes it does, within 5 minutes or so it forces me to hard reset lightroom to fix it. I am wondering if anyone else is having issues with the new updates or if it possble that it is due to the size of my catalog?

My thoughts- What is your Catalog Settings for Metadata?-

If "Automatically write....." is selected then LrC is having to rewrite  image files or XMP files on the hard-drive to add the metadata changes (for many files!).  Writing to files on the drive will be much slower that simply adding keywords into the Catalog.

Regards. My System: Windows-11, Lightroom-Classic 15.0, Photoshop 27.0, ACR 18.0, Lightroom 9.0, Lr-iOS 10.4.0, Bridge 16.0 .

Like @GoldingD said, the size of your catalog is not the issue. My catalog contains 200,000 images, and even that is not considered extremely large. There are photographers who have millions of images in a single catalog. The number of images you select for synchronizing could be an issue, however. I have seen reports that syncing metadata among > 500 images is sometimes troublesome.

Wierdly enough it is happening consistantly when trying to sync only 5-10 images. It seems to be Lightroom is really slow to update images within the Catalog, as i started to notice that even changing the rating and color label, it lags behind and only shows up when the catalog is restarted.

Have you tried Optimizing the catalog?

. I have a large Catalog (20,000+)

Many members will have much larger, as in 200,000 plus images in one catalog.

Probably not the size at issue.

Where do you keep the catalog? What drive?

On that drive, how much free space in percent (%)

It is saved directly to my laptops harddrive that is reguraly cleaned and running with 250+ free gigs and never below 20%.
