Off SD Card to External HD - Lightroom icon/SLOW

I transferred my images from my SD card to External HD. It took HOURS for them to transfer, slow to open each image, and showing Lightroom Icon in finder where the images should be. I have not even opened Lightroom yet. I have used this process for years. The last 500,000+ images lol A little stressed because I need to have these posted tomorrow. Can someone please tell me what is going on?? I'll share some images of my screen to show what I'm seeing.

1. Ensure you've granted Full Disk Access to LR, as described here:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-discussions/quick-tips-how-to-give-full-disk-access-to-lightroom-classic-on-macos/td-p/12913413

I vaguely recall someone with similar symptoms that went away after granting Full Disk Access, but I can't find that thread, so I may be mistaken. Nevertheless, most people need to grant Full Disk Access on Mac.

2. To troubleshoot whether it's the card reader, use Finder to copy the same photos from the card to a temporary folder on your Desktop.  Do the files copy at a reasonable speed, or do they take as long as the import into LR?   If the Finder copy goes as slowly, then you've definitely got a card-reader problem. If the Finder copy goes much faster, then the problem is elsewhere, perhaps with the external drive. Try copying the photos from the temporary folder on your Desktop to a temporary folder on the external drive -- fast or slow?

Card reader malfunction. Or camera card malfunction.
