Older version Lightroom files interfacing with a newer Lightroom version -

I purchased a very early version of Lightroom years ago, possibly the 1st one, im not sure. I then updated it to a newer version (Lightroom 3 maybe...?). Anyway, after newer laptops and laptop crashes my most current version of Lightroom wont work on my new laptop and access all my photo files. Im prepared to purchase a new Lightroom but dont want to do anything without understanding how this affects those olders fiiles / catalog. How do i interface the new Lightroom with the old files / catalogs ?

If you subscribe to the Adobe Photography Plan, then you get software named Lightroom Classic.

Lightroom Classic should be able to read all of your Lightroom 3 work, and you can continue to use whatever work you have done.

It sounds like you do not want the new software named Lightroom, which stores your photos in the Adobe cloud; it sounds like you should stick with Lightroom Classic.
