Question

Only one image in my catalogue is saying File access was denied when I try to export the image.

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to somehow use / export this image so it's not lost forver? I have tried to duplicate it and save the duplicate - says File access was denied.

I have tried to export the image as it's own catalogue and export from there - says File access was denied.

I have tried to export either to my external hard drive or desk top - says File access was denied.

I will attach a screen shot of the error but really hoping this image can be saved!

Thank you.

Suggestions to try-

First confirm with Mac Finder that the file does actually exist.

Then try-

1) Make a Copy of the NEF file in Mac Finder.

2) Rename the copied file in Finder- by removing the comma from the filename (LrC 'generally' does not 'like' characters other than letters & numbers.)

3) Move the original file to another location (to hide it).

4) In LrC Library Grid view- The image will now be "Missing" [!]

5) Click the [!] and choose [Locate] from the "File could not be found" dialog.

6) Choose the Copy & Renamed version of the photo to re-link.

7) Click on [Select] and [Confirm] that the image has a 'new' filename.

Then if the image is not shown as missing, try the Export once again.

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. I'd love to help you figure this out.

Could you please share the specific version of Lightroom Classic from Help > About Lightroom Classic and the specific version of macOS? Has this started to happen recently since an update of the macOS or Lightroom Classic?

Does the image open up when you right-click on it and select 'Show in Finder? Where is the original image stored on an internal drive or an external drive?

If you can locate the original image in Finder from within Lightroom Classic, you can go back to Lightroom Classic and right-click on this image and select Metadata > Save Metadata to File.

All the edits on this image will be preserved as an XMP for once. You can copy the original with XMP as a backup.

You can also ensure Lightroom Classic has correct and complete permissions on the macOS by following the steps I have shared in this article: Quick Tips: How to give Full Disk Access to Lightroom Classic on macOS

Let us know if this works.

Thanks!
