Opening backup file freezes lightroom cc 6.9

My system crashed and I had to reinstall windows 10.

Installed lightroom cc and opened it no problem,

copied backup (unzipped) file into lightroom folder (default folder in pictures)

Selected new catalog and selected it.

Message comes on the screen saying "opening lightroom catalog ..."

That is it.  Message never goes away.

Lightroom not shown in the task bar as being active, so cannot close it.  Have to restart computer.

Only way to get lightroom from locking on the file now is to uninstall and reinstall it.

Note.  My directories may not be exactly the same as the original when backup was made.  Not sure if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Kym

Hi Kym,

Please take a look at this article Recover catalog and images after resetting preferences in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and follow the steps I have linked.

I believe you are trying to open a different catalog so try location the correct one and let us know if that helps.

Thanks,

Akash

Ok. First thanks for the fast response. Fixed my problem it but not exactly the way stated on the document. Below my fix for your interest.

1. There was 2 files in the preferences folder. I had to delete both in order for it to work. Not too clear on the instructions.

2. Deleted all files in Pictures/Lightroom and replaced them with the backup file.

Lightroom started with no notification boxes.

Had to locate the photo file but that was my problem.

Thanks again. Love the product. NowiIf the new release would only work on a network, Hint, Hint.
