Question

Operating from an external hard drive

I just got a new computer and I would like to transfer my Lightroom classic catalog to the new computer. The trick is that I have a lot of pictures saved (>400 GB) and I don't want to fill my new hard drive. To overcome this I would like to keep all of my photos on an external hard drive and just connect it whenever I want to use Lightroom. Is there a way to make this work without having to import all of my photos onto the new computer?

Thank you in advance for the help!

Of course there is - DO NOT reimport, since this will destroy the work done to your images so far!

Here is a guide for you: https://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-move-lightroom-to-new-computer/

Some additional information here: Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders
