Organizing and Renaming files on my Drive

I have all of my media on an internal drive, and I would like to copy it all to a larger drive. While doing this I would like to delete files that I no longer need, and rename, and organize other folders. I know in the past this would unlink my media from the Catalog, though I am just wondering if LR has gotten any better over the past few years with being able to re-link on its own, OR if there is another way of trying to do what I want to acheive?

Thanks

In terms of how to move/reorganise/relink files LrC hasn't changed/improved over the years. The quickest and safest way to move your photo library from the old disk to the new is to do so using Finder (Mac) or Explorer (Windows).

Part 2 of https://www.computer-darkroom.com/lr2_find_folder/find-folder.htm describes how you can do above without risking data loss. When all your photos are safely on the new disk and relinked, then and only then should you begin the task of reorgansing your photos on the new disk.Ideally you  do this from within LrC.

Follow the instructions from @Ian Lyons carefully. However, when you say this:

While doing this I would like to delete files that I no longer need, and rename, and organize other folders.

I agree with Ian that you should not combine the task of moving to a new disk with the tasks "delete files that I no longer need, renaming and organizing other folders". Terrible idea, terrible idea, terrible idea. Don't combine these tasks.

Get one task to work first, confirm that it is working properly: that one task is moving everything to a new hard disk. Only when you are 100% sure you have done that properly and everything is working correctly, then you might want to try the other tasks you mentioned.

A better solution to "rename and organize other folders", in my opinion, is to assign keywords and other metadata to these photos to achieve organization, rather than use your operating system to achieve organization. Keywords and other metadata offer many advantages over operating system organizing.
