This error usually means Lightroom Classic cannot write files to the selected destination folder.

Here are a few things you can check:

    1. Make sure the destination folder exists and is accessible.

    2. Check the folder permissions on your Mac. Right-click the folder, select Get Info, and check Sharing & Permissions.

    3. If you are importing to an external hard drive, check whether it is mounted read/write and not formatted as NTFS without write support on macOS.

    4. Try importing one JPG file into a new folder on your Mac's internal drive. If it works, the original destination or drive permissions may be the issue.

    5. If the problem continues, please share the destination folder location and your macOS and Lightroom Classic versions.

Also, make sure you have a backup before changing drive permissions or formatting.

    Hope this helps,

Sorry for delay in replying but In was also having problems accessing a portable hard drive bit that’s sorted.  I really appreciated your response. It was Number 2.  I changed the destination and all is back to normal now.

You don’t have write permission to the Destination folder specified in the Import dialog box (on the right). One of these two solutions ought to work for you:

    1. You need to change the permissions on this folder using your operating system so that you have write permission.
    2. Sometimes the Destination folder gets changed accidentally from what you were using (and the import worked) to a different location. In that case, change the Destination folder back to what it used to be when it worked.

    Hi @Clifford27386993zg9p,

Glad to hear you’ve got it sorted!

Would you mind sharing what resolved the issue? Was it changing the destination folder or adjusting its permissions?

It would be helpful for others who might encounter the same error and come across this thread in the future.

    Thanks for following up!

    Best,
