P: Crashes every time I click on a video

Since I updated LrC to version 14.0.1, I can't play videos in library mode any more. Lightroom crashes every time I click on a video.

(MacBook Pro, Intel), MAC OS 15.0.1, short video from iPhone 12 mini.

I have sent an error report to Adobe each time and had my system checked each time (no incompatibilities were found).

Software crashes every time I click on a video. They would be videos taken with iphone.  I have sent an error report each time to Adobe and Apple.   As others have stated, I was able to watch videos previously with LR (though I don't remember the system set-up).

I am also having this problem. It did not happen in earlier (recent) LR versions.

LR Classic 14.1 crashes anytime I click on a video file in grid (on Mac 14.7).

This did not used to happen. It should be possible to view video files in LR.

I can't figure out how to save an Adobe crash report.

  1. Version of the app - Lightroom Classic 14.1.1
  2. Platform and OS version - MacOS Sequoia 15.1.1
  3. Basic steps to reproduce the problem - In Library mode, try to play any video and app crashes.
  4. Expected result and actual result - I want the videos to play and instead the app crashes and I can't play video.

Here is my issue - any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Now that the other issues with v14 seem to have been resolved, I've been update to upgrade to it again and do some more digging into this one.

This, for me at least, seems to be related to the "Enable HDR in Library" option under Settings -> Performance. With that disabled I get a crash opening any vertical video in library loupe view, with it enabled they open without a crash.

I'm not really sure why that setting should make a difference, given that nothing in my library is HDR and nor are any of my screens (hence why I hadn't enabled it), plus I didn't see this issue in 13.5 which is where that setting was added, but it seems consistent - disabled = crash, enabled = no crash.

Thanks, I tried this and it worked for me.

I too was hoping 14.1.1 would address this but the behaviour is exactly the same as 14.0.1. In loupe view when I select a video, the video will not load and Lightroom crashes, If the video is in landscape mode it works okay, but consistently crashes if the video is in portrait mode. I have submitted several crash reports with my comments. Only workaround I can find at the moment is to delete video's from the catalog. I am using the latest MacOS on Intel.

Same problem here. Was hoping 14.1.1 would address this, but apparently not. LR is crashing multiple times per hour on me. Not every switch to a video causes a crash, but I can't figure out what the trigger is. Have submitted as many crash reports as I can, but am losing patience.

Hey, @GR7359. Welcome to the Lightroom Community. I'll need more info to help you figure this out.

Is there a crash report pop-up when Lightroom Classic crashes? Please submit the crash reports to us: https://adobe.ly/4cE76mn

Does Lightroom crash only with a specific set of videos? What is the size and encoding of these videos? Has this started to happen since a recent update for Lightroom or MacOS? Where is your catalog stored?

You can follow the basic troubleshooting steps here: https://adobe.ly/49QB2vG

Awaiting to hear more from you.

Thanks!

Hey
I have submitted the crash report several times.
This problem happens with all the videos i have tried to open. They are all .mp4 or .mov files, codec MPEG-4 AAC. There size are between 10 and 45 Mo, si not so big.My catalog is stored on my internal hard disk. My videos files are on an external hard disk  Samsung T7.
I have recently bought a Lightroom license and this problem happens from the first day I'm using it. Everything is updated (macOS, Lightroom classic and external hard disk driver)

Thank you for your help,

Awaiting to hear more from you.

Hello

I use to import some movies in Lightroom Classic.

I notice that clicking on recent imported movies cause Lightroom to crash.

It happens with .mov as well as .mp4 movies.
