P: Generative Remove Feedback (Lr Classic & Lr Eco)

This post applies to Lightroom Classic and the Lightroom Ecosystem products.
Camera Raw feedback can be found here.

Generative Remove makes it easier to remove unwanted objects and distractions with a simple gesture, even on complex backgrounds. For more accurate results, be sure to include the object's shadow in your selection and/or expand its size.

Detect Objects uses AI to find the objects underneath a brushed area. The masked areas will now appear larger than the Early Access version of this feature. You can also circle objects for quicker selection now.

We have also updated the spot selection experience to make it easier to manage variations, switch the fill type, refine the selection area, or re-generate as needed.

Batch updating is also now supported for Generative Remove spots.

Try out the latest updates and share your feedback with us here. Please also include the following details in your post:
  • App version
  • System details
  • Example image(s) if you wish to share

Our team continually monitors this thread to track issues for future improvement. Thanks!

Want to remove electric lines in between font object an and background mountains.

AI removes houses, busches, trees in background mountains and enhances the electric lines to give them more contrast

This is not the desired effect.

Thanks

Herbert

@DrSo: "Want to remove electric lines in between font object an and background mountains."

Power lines can require a little extra care.  See this post:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-discussions/p-generative-remove-feedback-lr-classic-amp-lr-eco/m-p/14933071#M383679

Also note that Remove without Generative AI checked (the old content-aware remove) is sometimes easier to use than Generative AI Remove, though in all the examples provided in this thread, Generative Remove works.

if this doesn't help, please attach a full-resolution JPEG exported from the unmodified original photo (not a screenshot), so we and Adobe can see the issue in detail. With nearly everyone who has posted a problem photo, we've been able to show how to quickly remove the desired objects.

I tried out the new option for remove objects. And it took out half of the subjects face. No worries, I turned it off again.

But now it is stuck on no matter what option the toggle switch is set to.

It’s a shame that AI is only integrated for object removal! A localized generative AI would be very welcome! Until that happens, Luminar Neo will remain No. 1… (with regret).

Instead of removing the object, it replaces it with something similar and with a very artificial quality!

We want to REMOVE  the object and mainly, persons.

Thank you and keep up the good work. we are in the right way.

New version does not work nearly as good as the previous, before the update. Now it just keeps trying to replace the highlighted area with something slimliar, vs totally removing it. I have tried all the suggestions, and it still does the same thing. Was simply trying to remove a person and selected everything with space around, no shadows were present, and it kept offering replacements of different warped faced people. 2nd and 3rd attempts same thing, one set of suggestions were of people facing the other way (behind angle). Before update, this worked way better. Will have to go into PS to remove objects, adding another step to the process, but it does a waay better job.

If you're tried the techniques described in this article:

then please attach a full-resolution JPEG exported from the unmodified original photo (not a screenshot), so we and Adobe can see the issue in detail. With nearly everyone who has posted a problem photo, including those who initially thought that LR 14 had changed things for the worse, we've been able to show how to quickly remove the desired objects.

I don't understand why, after I have made my edits, that they revert back and I have to go back through and regenerate the spots I have already done? And, then it generate something different than what I originally had going. What am I doing wrong? This is making editing 10x harder.

LR 14.0 introduced a serious bug that caused this, which is why Adobe released 14.0.1 to address it. Even after updating to 14.0.1, some people have reported it can be quite fussy to get LR operating correctly again.  See this thread and Adobe employee Rikk Flohr's second reply at the top:

If you still experience the problem, please post in that thread with details of what you're observing, rather than continuing the discussion here.

The remove tool has suddenly become as slow as molasses for me, even when not using AI.

With the Generative AI option *unchecked*, each little spot I want to remove means waiting 20-30 valuable seconds, in which Lightroom Classic window turns black and stops responding, sometimes an addional process like "Bezel" appears in the Windows taskbar, then all the elements of the application refresh themselves, then finally the spot is removed. It's maddening!

@R Gearhart: "The remove tool has suddenly become as slow as molasses for me, even when not using AI."

As a first troubleshooting step, update your graphics driver by going directly to the manufacturer's web site:

https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/troubleshoot-gpu.html#solution-4

If that doesn't help, I recommend starting your own thread, rather than continuing the discussion here. It will get better attention. Be sure to copy/paste here the entire contents of the LR menu command Help > System Info -- that will let us see exactly which versions of hardware and software LR thinks you're running.

Wow, remove and replaced worked pretty good until today's update.  Now I get ghosting or a complete replace with a similar object.  Almost useless at this point.

@Photos by Bre: "Now I get ghosting or a complete replace with a similar object."

1. The red dot under the Masking button indicates you've applied Remove on top of an AI mask, which can cause ghosting. Do the menu command Settings > Update AI Settings, or apply Remove before masking.

2. The replaced section of the white pole in your screenshot indicates you had Mode: Remove selected with Detect Objects checked.  Detect Objects doesn't do well at detecting long lines and poles -- uncheck Detect Objects and try it again.

If this doesn't help, please attach a full-resolution JPEG exported from the unmodified original photo, so we and Adobe can see the issue in detail. With nearly everyone who has posted a problem photo, we've been able to show how to quickly remove the desired objects.

Far too often, rather than simply removing the offending object, the remove tool simply substitutes another offending object.  This seems at odds with the purpose of a remove tool.
