Question

P: Lightroom randomly selects a a picture Profile.

I updated to LR Classic 15 and since then I am experiencing a few serious bugs that make it unusable. I am using Lightroom 15.0 on an M4 Pro Mac Mini, running the latest version of MacOS.

Primarily:

1. Lightroom randomly selects a a picture Profile. When in the Develop Module, if I select a Profile, such as "Camera Standard", the Profile shown in the top right will correctly show as whatever I select, as expected. However, sometimes the name of a seemingly random profile will flash up at the bottom of the screen, such as "Adobe Standard" and it is this random profile that is used to show the colours in the photo. I have even seen situations where my photo is changed to "Adobe Monochrome", when I selected a colour profile. If I then move to another photo and immediately back again, Lightroom CC seems to realise what profile should actually be selected and shows the photo correctly. I can edit several pictures correctly before I randomly get this behaviour.

2. Sharpening Masking Preview randomly stops working. After some time, the full-screen preview of the Masking slider, initiated when holding the Option key, stops working on the main view of the photo. However it still works in the small zoomed in view in the Detail panel. I have to restart Lightroom to get the functionality back again.

3. The brush on the AI Remove tool randomly stops showing. After using Lightroom to edit several photos, Lightroom will stop showing the brush to paint the area to be selected for removal. I then have no idea of the extent of the photo that will be removed. I have to restart Lightroom to get the functionality back again.

I checked this in the newly released LrC 15.0.1 and I CAN NOT repeat the behavior so I appears to be working correctly now.    @defaultynovrsqmy403 has 15.0.1 solved all the issues for you?

I just updated to 15.0.1 and also CAN NOT repeat the behaviour. In 15.0.1 the timings for showing a preview of a profile when the mouse moves into the box are much less aggressive than 15.0 - you need to hover for longer, rather than an almost immediate preview. Good news.

Are all 3 of your issues solved with 15.0.1 or just #1?

I have spent a few minutes investigating bugs 2 and 3. I believe I have discovered a way to reliably reproduce them. They are probably both related to Bug 1.

1. Deliberately trigger Bug 1, for example to cause a colour photo to be shown in an incorrect black and white profile.

2. Use either the sharpening mask or AI removal tool on the seeming B&W photo to show that then both appear to work. In other words, to begin with neither bugs 2 and 3 appear to occur.

3. Select another photo in grid view.

4. Return to the original photo, which will now correctly show in the correct colour profile. However, neither the sharpening mask or AI removal tool will work correctly, as described in Bugs 2 and 3.

This is post to make Bug 2 in my original post a separate thread. https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-discussions/p-lightroom-randomly-selects-a-a-picture-profile/m-p/15583091#M418036

I have seen this bug occur multiple time, even in the short time since I updated to 15.0. I noticed all three bugs in my original post within 20 mins. Howver, I have not as yet noticed a pattern for when this bu appears. Will update if I notice a pattern for how to reliably reproduce.

Update my origial post, referenced above, with new information that suggests that all 3 bugs described there may be related.

I just noticed that my original post has been renamed to refer to the picture profile issue (Bug 1). So far, there has been no discussion about bugs 2 and 3. If someone from Adobe is reading this thread I hope someone can investigate the other two.

@defaultynovrsqmy403: "I just noticed that my original post has been renamed to refer to the picture profile issue (Bug 1). So far, there has been no discussion about bugs 2 and 3."

It would be best to start separate threads for each. In general, it's best to have one thread for each separate issue (unless it's clear that they have the same underlying cause, which isn't the case here).

Will do. I just deliberately triggered Bug 1 and can confirm that Bugs 2 and 3 were not not present, so the 3 are unrelated. Will start 2 separate threads.

I made a quick check on my Windows laptop and I find the Profile Browser very sensitive and if you CROS one from one to another and the display changes both the main display and the preview window but the change does not change unless you actually click another profile. This refers to number #1 in the original post.

I have revisited this issue at least a dozen times last night and again today after the recent posts and I do not have this issue on my Windows laptop..

@Bob Somrak , @defaultynovrsqmy403  Please indicate what Version (numeric number) of macOS you are working on?

Rikk,

I can duplicate the #1 (Profile) issue easily.  It sometimes takes several tries.  I have a video of this happening but I can not attach or insert it.

@Bob Somrak, I have made over a hundred attempts and cannot replicate the behavior.  Keep in mind, the Profile bezel results from both a mouse-over behavior and a select behavior. If you are quick, it can cause a momentary change.

I can replicate it relatively easily when I discovered the technique. Move the mouse over a profile at reasonable pace and contrinute straight out of the Profile grid. Too slow and it is a hover that does not cause a "permanent" change. Too quick and the profile does not change at all. If the mouse is moved at just the right pace whatever profile the mouse travelled over will become permanently displayed until either another profile is actually selected, or you move to another photo and back again. I have been using lightroom for over 6 years and have never seen this before. All 3 bugs described in my main post I discovered within 20 minutes of upgrading to 15.0.

Un update on Bug 1 above. I have managed to reproduce what leads to the problem. The problem occurs when Profile grid is open. If the mouse hovers over a profile for a period of time (without clicking to select) then the profile is previewed as expected, and returns to the actually selected profile. However, if the mouse only briefly enters a profile and briefly travels over it to exit the Grid, then the previewed profile is displayed but not correctly returned to the actually selected profile. For example, briefly traversing over the Adobe Monochrome profile (without selecting it) can leave a colour image showing as monochrome, even if the profile grid is closed.
