So, lots of people have reported this. Fixes have been suggested, but can anyone say if this is a bug with 15.1, will there be a fix from Adobe, at least to stop it happening in the future? Is there any point in applying these fixes like regenerating AI data files if it is likely to happen again? We seem to be left completely in the dark about these things, or am I missing something?

I am just a user and cannot say anything with certainty.  I believe this is not really an LRC 15.1 issue, it's more of an LRC issue with the way AI edits are handeled, errors are reported, and resiliency of such actions.  There might have been a though for a need to compromise between the size of your catalog and the need to store bitmap/blob and other data for AI edits.  So the AI edits got their own storage, and it's just not handeled as well as the calaog its self.  It's made of many files instead of one database and external file handeling can cause issues.  That last part is probably why they try to hide that it's a folder.

I also think there may be or have been an issue with using the same catalog on different platforms.  Along with errors that are misleading.

Rebuilding your AI cache will get you going again, you'll have to recheck edits for things where it drew things for you, like generative fill, reflection removal, etc.  I do have some files that are just toast as it thinks it cannot read them and will not loet me do anything further with them except move them.  I think I tried this on an AI cache reguild test but I'm not completly certain.

As far as it happening again. I don't know.  It's likely. I think all that has happened here is that the program is less silent about these errors. This could be why there have been times in the past where I'm looking at soething and think for example "Oh ghosh, I thought I removed the beer bottle."  Well I might have, the thumbnail might show it gone if it isn't updated, but the actual edit data is missing.  So instead of just exporting it without that edit, now it's making errors.

The best thing to do is make sure it's set to bug you once a week to backup, and do so every time it asks.  If you have something syncing your database, make sure it doesn't run while LRC is running.  This is common practice but may not happen in an accident; make sure you always eject the drive, if your catalog is external,  in the proper way.  Shutdown the computer properly.  That the drive where you catalog and cahce sit have plenty of free space.

I know I recently, not related to this, had an issue where a program locked up some file IO stuff.  Couldn't shut down properly. Give a few programs file issues later.  It happens.

There have been many reports about this, with no definitive solutions yet.

1. Click Learn Mode and work through the troubleshooting steps in the linked help article.

2. If that doesn't help, then disable all cloud-sync services like Onedrive, Google Drive, etc. and then make a new test catalog. Does the problem occur with that?

3. If that doesn't help, then read through this thread to see if any posts help you:

A number of people are reporting this issue. The first thing to check: Make sure you're catalog folder is not being synced by Onedrive or other cloud service (Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.).  If you're not sure, disable Onedrive and any other services entirely.

I have this issue too. I came to this thread by way of support.  I'm waiting on them to contact me back.  I also have the additional issue that I cannot backup, it tells me it cannot write to the directory, no matter which I choose.

For full context I use my catalog on two computers, I sync them via syncthing.  One is a Mac, the other is Windows.

One collection in question I know I edited on the Mac, that's mostly the purpose, I edit with smart collections, export when at home with much more power/speed.   This collection exports on the Mac, I can copy the profile, update the file paths and it fails on the PC.

While trying to figure out anything, I ran procmon and it lead me to logs at %localappdata%\Adobe\Lightroom\Logs\LrClassicLogs\

I took a look at the big data db retrieve and store logs. Both are complaining about not finding a pixel-mask DB file and path, the but path exists.

I'm going to check my backups and see if I have that blob file, but if this were the cause, seems like the program should throw an error saying files are missing info for smart edits, then make a dynamic collection where we can go through them one by one, redo the edits and move on.  As it is right now, I'm trying to export over 7k of items and it just breaks and sits.  Every time I go over a file with any AI edits, I get TONS of the same error box and I have to click like a mad person to continue.

Sorry, I do not know where these logs would be on a Mac.

@Stu_135: "I use my catalog on two computers, I sync them via syncing."

What app or service is doing the syncing?

Hello,

It wasn't a type, Syncthing.  https://syncthing.net/

You'll want to know about ignore patterns, I don't sync previews regular or smart, they're quick enough to rebuild and I don't hold them on the desktop.  Also you'll want to block syncing any *sync-conflict* files.  Macs don't seem to care about file locks so make sure it's not running at the same time LRC runs or rescan the directory and sync after closing.

I do sync the backups between the two, I wish Adobe would use 7z as they are a lot larger as zip. You can omit them too but make sure you bakcup lots and save them in a non-syncing directory until you sure abou the utility because a mistake can wipe out anything in the directory.

I am experiencing this problem since the 15.1 update.

I get the error trying to edit, or export any image with AI edits such as denoise. It is making LrC unusable.

I have tried all the suggestions in this thread but none of them help. I have a fully up to date system, with plenty of free disk space.

Adobe Support have had my lrdata file for a day or so and say they are repairing it, so I'm still waiting.

I am recieving an error instantly after Lightroom Classic loads

defaultyp6r3s4umq0q_0-1766111673927.png

I can no longer make any AI based edits such as denoise.  What is strange is that this occured after I had already made several thousand AI denoise edits, but when I loaded back into LrC, this error popped up and I can no longer use the feature.  All of my previous AI edits saved, but any new ones I make dont save and cause the photo to be inaccessible, showing "An unkown error occured."

I have tried:
Moving the cataloge to a new location on my internal drive
Letting LrC remake the .lcat-data file (This caused all photos with AI edits to become inaccessible)
Restarting
Loading in as an admin
Optimizing the cataloge
Increasing the RAW cache limit

Also there is several 100 GBs free on both the drive the catalog is on as well as the drive the photos are on. I just updated to v15.1 today so I am sure its an issue caused by this version.  I Have only seen one other post about this and nothing there fixed the problem.  Ironically the AI support chat bot was useless...  Anybody have any suggestions of things I havent tried yet? Thank you.

I updated to Lightroom Classic 15.1 and immediately started getting the AI Edits Storage Error message for every photo I tried to edit.   Here is what eventually solved the problem for me:

1) I checked the hard drive where my LrC catalog was located and the available storage was varying wildly, changing every second.

2) I quit LrC and the available storage was stable at 16gb.

3) I move items off of that drive and then had 283gb of storage available.

4) After starting LrC again, the the available space on the drive was stable at 283gb

5) I have edited about 5 photos since then and no error messaage has appeared.

Hopefully low storage on the drive with the catalog was the culprit.  FIngers crossed!

Hi @vaghinak,

Thanks for reporting this. To help narrow this down, could you please check and test the following:

• Try right-clicking on Lightroom Classic and launching it as Administrator, then test again

• Go to File > Optimize Catalog and let it complete

• Try launching Lightroom Classic in Safe Mode and test again

• Confirm where your Catalog and original images are stored, and share the exact path/location

• Let us know how much free space is available on the drive where the Catalog is stored, and the system drive (where Windows and Lightroom Classic are installed)

• Confirm whether you are using any third-party plugins

• Please copy and paste your System Info from Help > System Info into your reply

Thanks for your help, and we’ll take it from there once we have the details.

Best regards,

Anshul Saini

When you receive this error, contacting support is your best course of action. The failure you are seeing is not new to version 15.1, but it formerly had no dialog to display when it occurred. The Error Message was added in LrC version 15.1 to guide you toward a workable solution.

If you encounter this new dialog, you should:

  1.  Review this document: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/ai-edits-storage-error.html to make sure you are not affected by the items listed there.
    2.  Contact Adobe Support, as they have an lrcat-data recovery tool that can fix your corrupt file.

You would do this if you don't want to take the extreme option of removing your lrcat-data file and rebuilding it from scratch, as has been mentioned in this thread. This method works, but it can result in unexpected results when AI data has been recalculated.

Please note that the understood causes of corruption in this file are external. It is essential to review this KB document to ensure you don't have future corruption.

Thank you for your patience.

To contact Adobe Customer Care, as instructed in the error message, go to https://helpx.adobe.com/contact/what-contact-options.html. Scroll to the bottom and click on the “Start Now” live chat link in the lower right of this page. Typing “Agent” into the chat text field will bypass the initial chatbot.

Please contact Customer Support for troubleshooting." I followed intructions on the forum but my issue still persists.
