P LrC 15.5 Video Files Issues (Windows)

I updated to LrC 15.5 a few hours ago.  Since then LrC has problems with video files.  The first problem I noticed was that when I tried to synchronize a folder that had two new video files.  After a couple of minutes I got the error message “An unknown error occurred while reading the video file. (2)”.  I had just completed those files with DaVinci Resolve so I went back and produced the same files again to check if DR had made an error.  When I tried again with the new files but got the same errors.  I was able to play both videos without any issue using VLC Media Player, so they seem to be OK.  I then shutdown LrC and did a backup including optimizing the catalog, and then restarted it to see if that made any difference, but same error.  Then I started looking at other videos that were already in LrC and found that when browsing them in the Library module, most of them pop up a message “There was an error working with the video”.  They will not play in LrC but work fine with VLC Media Player. 

Prior to upgrading to 15.5 I did not experience any of these errors. Is anyone else seeing these problems?

    Recently changed my Samsung Galaxy A22 to record HEVC. These worked in 15.4.1. In 15.5 won't play or import. Reverted to 15.4.1 and now all good. Had a similar problem with Microsoft where the forced me to buy a HEVC codex.

    Hi,

    I can confirm that I am experiencing the same problem with Lightroom Classic 15.5 on Windows.

    Lightroom Classic 15.5 cannot import my MP4 video files into the catalog. The problem affects different MP4 files, so it does not appear to be related to a particular video or codec.

    I downgraded to Lightroom Classic 15.4.1, using the same computer, catalog and video files, and the problem immediately disappeared. I can now import the MP4 files normally.

    This strongly suggests that the issue is a regression introduced in Lightroom Classic 15.5, rather than a problem with the video files, the catalog or my system.

    For anyone experiencing the same issue, downgrading to version 15.4.1 appears to be an effective temporary workaround until Adobe releases a fix.

    Adobe should investigate the video-import changes in Lightroom Classic 15.5, particularly the interaction with the Dynamic Link media components.

    I also have errors with videos. I just upgraded from LrC 15.3 to 15.5 on Windows 10. I did update the NVidia driver, and rebooted.

    These videos worked fine before (most likely in 15.3, but I’m not sure in what version I played them last). They all play in VLC.

    MP4 videos from my Canon R6 are OK.

    MOV videos from my iPhone 15 can’t be played, regardless of orientation; those that have a preview image can be “animated” when moving the mouse horizontally across the thumbnail in the library. Regardless of the presence of a thumbnail, all these videos immediately display an error message saying “There was an error working with the video” when double-clicking the video.

    Some older MOV videos from an iPhone 11 and iPhone 13 work just fine, but others from an iPhone SE, iPhone 12, iPhone 13 (the same one) won’t play. 

    So, it doesn’t seem to be specific to an iPhone model (some from an iPhone 13 work and some don’t). It could be related to the “age” of the video; all the old ones seem to work. But “age” could mean several things: an iPhone software update, an older LrC catalog encoding, etc. In fact, in my whole catalog, all MOV files before August 2022 are fine, while all those from August 2022 and after won’t play in LrC 15.5. I am certain all these videos worked in a previous version not long ago.

    Now I am getting another message, “Enable rendering of HDR content in Library views".  I see that such a message was first added in v14.0 such that if HDR photos were found the message would appear.  I have never seen the message until today after upgrading to v15.5, and so far as I know I have no HDR photos.  This is not attached to any particular photos but is present as I move around in the Library module.  I did not click “Enable” I just clicked the X, and it disappeared.  At least for now.  

    I am still unable to import video files, and I still am unable to view most video files that have already been imported. 

    Given that Rikk is adding likes to posts that imply there is no issue with 15.5, I decided Adobe is not going to take this seriously, so I deleted version 15.5 and reloaded version 15.4.  Everything is back to normal.  I am again able to import video files, and I can browse and play videos in the Library module.  Unfortunately, I don’t have access to the mask adjustments introduced in 15.5.

    Please post a copy of your LrC System Info. This can be obtained from the LrC Help > System Info menu item. Use the Copy button at top right of the System Info dialog to capture the info.

    Since the threading in this forum can be bit of a mess, mention in first line of your post that you’ve downgraded to 15.4, which works fine.

    I do not have any issues with videos in Lightroom Classic 15.5 on my Mac.

    Have you tried resetting the LrC Preference file? This is a useful self-check that can easily be made when odd behaviour occurs, especially after the application has been upgraded. You can use Method 1 as shown in below linked help document:

    Tried that, no change.

    It’s amazing that after so many years this is still a bug in Lightroom, and is recommended for any unusual behavior. Sometimes it works, but, alas, not in this case.
