This post applies to Camera Raw, Lightroom Classic & the Lightroom Ecosystem products.

The Lightroom team is sharing an early look for AI-powered Lens Blur–giving you the ability to apply optical blur on any image regardless of how it was taken. Lens Blur is now available to try on all Lightroom surfaces.

How does Lens Blur work?
  • Lens blur applies a depth-based blur effect, similar to what can be achieved with real-world optical lenses, by using AI-generated or device-captured depth data (when available).
  • Lens blur will automatically prioritize focus for the detected subject, but you can also interactively adjust the focus distance. Precise focus range tuning is also available (currently desktop only: Lightroom Desktop, Lightroom Classic, and Camera Raw).
  • You can also further customize the Bokeh shapes, highlight Boost (desktop only), and make depth map refinements (desktop only).

Will my Lens Blur adjustments on one surface be synced to other surfaces? I.e. mobile to web to desktop, and vice versa?
  • Yes, all edits will sync. To revert settings, you can go back to previous versions or history steps, or un-apply Lens Blur settings.

Can I add Lens Blur settings to my presets?
  • No, presets and copy + paste workflows are not currently enabled for Lens Blur during Early Access.

For more information, please check out Lens Blur.

Please give it a try and share feedback in this thread as we continually improve this feature.

Salut, je suis fan de cette fonction ! Dans certains cas, on a vraiment  l'impression d'avoir un objectif plus ouvert... beau travail continuez.

I really like this. It didn't get the depth of the subject right on the first image I tried it on, but the fact that it has masking built in allowed me to work around that.

Initial reaction - Wow, amazing!

I love:

  • The focal range selection interface
  • The visualisation of depth

I'd like to understand the Bokeh modes/effects and how that works.  I guess there's reading out there that I haven't found yet.

THANK YOU!

The tool is amazing. Maybe it's already implemented, but I can't find the following: sometimes there are parts of the main subject that are detected in a different depht of field. It would be nice to been able to add or remove parts of the subject or modify the autodetected deep of field. Thanks

I missed these refine tools - will they help?

Hi

Once I go over 8% the lens blur picks out detail of the subject. Noticable particularly on the aerials as part of these are retained but the upper half are blurred.   Strange how the blur is applied to a small part of the nose undercarriage.

Other wise I like the feature

I finally upgraded from Lightroom 6 today and tried this feature for the first time. This image is a good example of the one detail I don't like. The point lights in the background become large and obvious bokeh circles. I suppose they are actually a good representation of what can happen, but I find them too sharp-edged and distracting. It would be nice to have an option to control the softness of the edges.

Background blur is great. would also like a control to desaturate the color of the burred area.

Love the depth of field control.
