Since the latest versions of Lightroom Classic and MacOS the masking of people always shows “No people found” – even on photos where it was working before.

@sirthrosturv, @Hot Tubs Oxfordshire, there are many reports that People masking fails on Intel Macs with Mac OS 26.3, and the evidence strongly points at a buggy AMD graphics driver released in 26.3:

While waiting for Apple and AMD to release a fixed driver, try this workaround:

@Hot Tubs Oxfordshire I intalled Mac OS Sequoia on an external drive (since it appears impossible to downgrade Tahoe) and people detection is no an issue when runnig Lightroom under that OS on the iMac.

That’s further evidence it’s a bug in the Mac OS 26.3 AMD graphics driver.

There are an accumulating number of reports about AMD Radeon GPUs having problems with LR 15’s People masking and perhaps other AI commands also (some of the forum content about this from the last few months is no longer available).

For over a year, LR's AI commands have been tripping over bugs in the graphics drivers for Intel Macs' Radeon 500- and 5000-series GPUs.

The drivers in Mac OS 15 appeared to have addressed many of the issues, but there continues to be a steady trickle of reports like yours. It looks like neither Apple nor AMD care much about fixing driver bugs for seven-year-old GPUs on a platform Apple wants to go away.

Perhaps as more people add their reports here, Adobe will use its connections and clout to get the attention of Apple and AMD.  Back with the Mac OS 14 AMD drivers, it took about six months for Apple to release new AMD drivers in Mac OS 15 that fixed the previous round of problems:

    This is pure speculation!

As I said before, I work in the IT for over two decades. When I think about Acrobat Reader or even Flash, my trust in Adobe's quality assurance is worlds lower than that of Apple!

And the sad thing is, I pay for it monthly…

this is correct. It hasnt been over a year, it took adobe like 3 months to actually fix the issue. but it was good for over a year at that point.

Since upgrading to LRC15.2 I also am having this issue.  This also does not in a layer opened with camera RAW filter in PS OR in LR cloud on this machine.

I use this feature all the time and it is really wreaking havoc with my work flows!

I have tried ALL the commonly suggested resets (e.g. deleting pref files, uninstalling and reinstalling LRC15.2, deleting CR modelzoo folder, disabling GPU acceleration: NOTHING MAKES ANY DIFFERENCE).

OK I’ve got some new information to add, not sure whether it helps.  I just uninstalled, LR, LRC and Bridge and replaced them with the immediately pervious versions (where people had been detecting in masking, no problem).  I’m not sure whether that reset the camera raw file to the previous version...The thing is that on MacOS 13.2.1 they NO LONGER WORK.

So either camera raw remained at 18.2 (despite the app downgrades) and it is the camera raw function that controls the masking so the the problem is still CR 18.2. OR

Camera Raw was downgraded, but it could be that the issue is not the LR, LRC app updates on Intel macs that are the problem, but rather it was something in the Mac OS 13.2 and 13.2 upgrades that caused the problem.

I can’t be sure whether I lost the people making function, with the LRC15.2 update or with the MacOS 13.2 update.

Hope that helps advance the investigation/remediation.

@cde1313 It seems like the common issue is the AMD Radeon Pro 5700 XT

...and other AMD Radeon 500 and 5000 series GPUs on Intel Macs:

@cde1313 I am having this issue now.

Please do the LR menu command Help > System Info and copy/paste the entire contents here so we can see exactly which versions of hardware and software LR thinks you're running and important LR options that are set.

It would be good to merge these recent reports into a single thread, so that Adobe gets a more accurate view of the issue. Unfortunately, the new forum is still missing three months of recent content, and it’s search function is very poor, so I can’t find these reports.

La détection de personnes ne fonctionne pas dans le menu masque mais la détection du sujet fonctionne.

Cela ne fonctionne pas non plus avec le module camera raw de PS

@sarrelibre Turning off the graphics processor makes no difference.

Weirdly, LR’s AI commands don’t obey the setting of Preferences > Performance > Use Graphics Processor. On Mac, there’s no way to stop the AI commands from using the GPU.
